5 Star Energy Efficiency
With the Energy saving now becoming more and more popular, and mandatory, Ryandale has kept up with the jones'. We can not only provide quality tips on how to help keep your home energy efficient we can also provide energy ratings and sound advice during construction to help you save money in the long run.
Here are a few tips which may help in designing your new home and/or extension.
  • West windows do not give a good rating, if west windows are a must, we suggest timber framed windows and try to minimize size of the window or make eaves bigger (Eg: 600 eaves)
  • East windows are fine. However large windows in the east will hinder the rating in the winter by letting out to much heat and not allow enough to enter, try standard eaves for normal sized windows and larger eaves (max 900) for larger windows.
  • North: All living areas facing north small to medium windows in this direction are fine large windows should be minimal if possible.
  • South windows do not receive any sun however let a lot of heat out. Try to minimize the window sizes if possible, otherwise try timber frames.
  • Timber frame windows rate better than aluminum.
  • Comfort plus windows have a 6.38mm glaze in them. This is thicker than your standard window (3-4mm) hence provides better protection in the summer and allows heat to remain in side for winter.
  • Double Glazing is an expensive option but well worth the money in the long run. Some window companies provide a 12mm gap with argon gas in between 2 x 4mm glass on the outsides. This is well desired
  • A rain water tank is always handy for watering the garden on your non watering days and also provides your sanities like your toilets with rain water.
